Our Philosophy

We believe weekly physical education enhances the capacity of every student’s mind, body, and social well-being.  The comprehensive SPARK curriculum used in the physical education program provides students with the skills and knowledge to accomplish personal goals related to living an active lifestyle.  Students will understand the value of physical activity and participate in various movement settings to explore cooperative play, skill development, strength-building, and aerobic exercise.  Students will practice activities that build a foundation for participation in future physical activities related to leisure, recreation, and competition.

Physical activity is critical to the development and maintenance of good health. The goal of physical education is to develop physically educated individuals who have the knowledge, skills, and confidence to enjoy a lifetime of physical activity.

A physically literate individual: 

Standard 1
Demonstrates competency in a variety of motor skills and movement patterns.

Standard 2
Applies knowledge of concepts, principles, strategies and tactics related to movement and performance.

Standard 3
Demonstrates the knowledge and skills to achieve and maintain a health-enhancing level of physical activity and fitness.

Standard 4
Exhibits responsible personal and social behaviors that respects self and others.

Standard 5
Recognizes the value of physical activity for health, enjoyment, challenge, self-expression and/or social interaction.
GradingGrades are based on student’s participation and performance within the Illinois Physical Education Learning Standards.  The standards include: social skills; motor skills; physical fitness components; individual, dual, and team sports; leisure and lifetime activities.
